This page explains how we research, check and correct what we publish. If something on this site is wrong, this is the standard we want you to hold us to.

Sources

  • We go to the primary source first: the statute on e-Gov Law Search or Japan’s official law translation database, police and ministry pages, embassy and government travel advice, court decisions, public statistics and academic research.
  • News reports, other guides and forum posts are treated as secondary. We use them to find leads, and we say so in the text when a point rests on them alone.
  • We link to the page we actually read. Where a page could not be opened or did not say what we needed, we write “we could not confirm” rather than guess.

Fact-checking

Before an article is published, every checkable claim (numbers, dates, law articles, phone numbers, quotations) is checked again against its source. Claims that cannot be supported are removed. Amounts and penalties are checked against the original Japanese wording.

Articles that list phone numbers or fees show the date they were last checked, and we re-check them at least every six months.

Independence and disclosure

This site is published by the team behind Pianissimo, a Tokyo outcall service. To keep the guides useful:

  • The body of our articles does not recommend, rank or review any venue, including our own.
  • We do not accept payment for coverage.
  • Where a guide is written for readers who are ready to book a service, and a booking link appears, it is labeled with this disclosure right next to it.

Safety and the law

We write about legal gray areas so readers can make safe, informed decisions. We do not explain how to break the law, and we do not publish the names, locations or prices of illegal businesses. We do not cover drugs. Nothing here is legal advice; for your own situation, contact a lawyer, the police, or your embassy.

Photos

We use our own photographs or public-domain and openly licensed images, credited in the caption. We do not photograph identifiable people without permission, and we do not use AI-generated images of real places.

Corrections

If you find an error, please contact us. We fix confirmed errors promptly and update the “last checked” date. Substantive corrections are noted at the end of the article.
